Wine grapes grow almost exclusively between thirty and fifty degrees north or south of the equator. The world's most southerly vineyards are in the Central Otago region of New Zealand's South Island near the 45th parallel,[45] and the most northerly is in Flen, Sweden, just north of the 59th parallel.[46]
